Claude Monet (1840-1928) Claude Monet was a leader of the ImpressionistsÑand in fact, the movement was named after one of his paintings, called Impression: Sunrise. Monet's Impression: SunriseMonet took his paints and canvases into the field to paint directly from nature. He wanted to capture the momentary effects of color and light in his paintings.
